Huailai Wine Center
This project was a competition entry with the design team: Ruslan Antonenko and Justin Vermeulen.
SUBMERGING WITH THE FIELDS
Intervening such a majestic scenery of Huailai requires a considerate and sustainable approach. In this respect, we believe that an architectural intervention should be in respect to the landscape, embracing the natural qualities. Besides the area's marvelous mountains, sprawl fields in the area are the root of our proposal, resulting in a hidden wine center that submerges with the site.
THE WINE CENTER
We believe in retaining and reverencing the site by submerging the architectural program elegantly underneath the green fields, which will be filled with grape trees.
We propose to keep the natural division of the agricultural landscape in tact and use it as a foundation for the basic shapes of the various buildings. By leaving the surrounding fields untouched, there is an opportunity for expansion in the future. Additional buildings should take the borders of the existing agricultural fields as a starting point. In this way the wine center can expand organically in the future. Since the building is surrounded by grape tree fields, we would like to position the wine center in a way that it can access the main road for convenient distribution and transport, while the center is looking out over the grand mountain ranges, situated in the south-east. There is also a strong connection with the local village.
